Is he still an Italian citizen?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Is he still an Italian citizen?

Postby Dariahoney » 11 Jul 2008, 15:11

I hope that someone can answer this question for me. My husband was born in Italy and came to the USA to live when he was 15, in 1952. He has returned to visit several times but has not resided in Italy since emigrating to the USA. He still has his Italian passport, but not his birth records. I believe that he was naturalized in the USA. Family members in Italy are telling him that unless he has been voting in Italian elections, he is no longer a citizen of Italy. Is this true? Has he lost his Italian citizenship?
Thank you for any help,
Dariahoney

If he naturalized before 1992, he lost his Italian citizenship. He can reacquire it by residing in Italy for one year.
