Domenico Guidicessa

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Domenico Guidicessa

Postby wisemonkey » 17 Jul 2008, 05:23

Sorry to be a pest but with your help have really made some progress in finding my ancestors.

Could you please help me locate Domenico Giudicesse's ship manifest?

He arrived Port of New York sailing from Naples on April 10, 1891 or 1894 and applied for naturalization in Kings County Brooklyn, NY in 1889.

He came from the commune of Scala Coeli, CS, Calbria. He was born in 1866.

I have searched the Ellis Island records with no success.

He is the first person in my family to arrive in the United States and was a brother to my great grandmother.

Thank you so much for any assistance you can provide.

From the site:

http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html

it seems the correct spelling of the last name was Iudicissa:

2.50 Scala Coeli Cosenza Iudicissa

You are amazing! He did have a daughter named Elisabetta and emigrated to Montana. I was not even aware of a nephew, Luigi so that is great!

Do you perhaps have the first page for the manifest from the Cachemire?

Looking for info about Luigi Giudicessi. He was my husband's grandfather. We have some info, but have ran into some difficulty deciphering all the different spellings of his name and any of his family members. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Luigi Giudicessi Born November 14, 1882 in Scala Coeli Italy. Died May 21, 1975 Luigi Guidicessi and buried in Des Moines, Iowa. Last name on headstone has the "U before the I"

This is the marriage of Pasquale Cesare Iudicissa (!) and Elisabetta Madera (this seems to be the correct spelling):

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cat=423806

The groom was 21, a labourer born and residing in Scala Coeli, son of deceased Luigi and Elisabetta Lucia, both residing in Scala Coeli.
The bride was 21, a spinner, born in Mandatoriccio, residing in Scala Coeli, daughter of Giuseppe, and Vittoria Giudicessa, both residing in Scala Coeli.

Great finds, Pippo :-D !

Here is another child (daughter) born to Cesare and Elisabetta... Rosaria Bombina Iudicesse (that is the spelling here)
She was born 10 September 1879 in Scala Coeli, and married on 4 January 1903 with Giuseppe Trocino.
