Simone and Palumbo

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Simone and Palumbo

Post by rrudman »

I'm searching ancestors Antonio Simone and Antonia Palumbo
whom immigrated to the US (NY) in 1885. They had children Maria,
Vincenza, both born in Italy and Savino born in NYC. I know the family
moved back to Italy in 1889 in Ricigliano. Savino married Maria Serritella
in Italy and then settled in Chicago. I'm also trying to find out where the Simone and Palumbo families orginated from in Italy. I searched Ancestry
and Castle Garden websites and was unsuccessful locating ancestors.
I know that Italian women traveled by their maiden name. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Line 6, Guiseppe Palumbo joining his sister Vito Antonio at 75 Ewing St.,
age 34??........

We need to find a newer manifest for the parents of Savino......
the older manifest just don't list that much info to confirm facts....

I think it's safe to say the family did indeed come from Ricigliano.
With both parents name, poster does have enough info to pursue
records in town of origin.......

Thanks for all the information. I do have all of this information on my Ancestry.com. I'm really looking for the immigration record for 1885
for the Simone's and their town of origin. Savino was born in NYC Jan 1
1887.

Do you have reason to believe the Simone family is not from
Ricigliano? From all indications it appears both families are
from this area. Palumbo is one of the top five surnames for
Ricigliano. De Simone also happens to be quite common.

With the older manifest, they list very little information and are pretty basic. Although nice to have for historical puposes.

Have you tried sending to the town of origin and requesting the
birth records of the other children?

no I haven't tried that yet not sure how - according to the family the last name has always been Simone and not De Simone but it could be wrong. I thought maybe they were from a different town since the family has said the Simones and the Serritellas met through a mutual friend while living in
NYC.
