Bad News for me....

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Bad News for me....

Postby sigel7 » 09 Mar 2009, 21:04

After receiving my grandfather and grandmothers birth certificates and marriage certificate I just recieved my grandfathers naturalization papers. I dont qualify for Italian citizenship. He naturalized 5 1/2 years too early. Darn it. I told my hubby we have to move to Italy for 3 years so I can bring the family back where it belongs.

Well, I have the starts for a great family genealogy book. Thanks everyone on here for all of the help given.

Dear catherine good to hear from you. Please keep me posted about your Italian exchange student (whoever that lucky person is going to be). Keep us posted about it so that we can add a notch to our collective index belt.. When learning Italian look forward to the day when you start thinking in Italian and not being aware of it until your well into your language cups..It happened to me on the train just outside of Rome Termini when I found myself having thoughts in Italian without being aware. =Peter=

Catherine..

I know how you feel. My dad Naturalized just TWO MONTHS BEFORE I was born so my brother and I do not qualify through him and yet my sister (who is the least interested) does.

Luckily I will qualify through my mother's side though..

I say move to Italy and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. As far as the exchange student goes, I have contacted a couple of services and have a form filled out with one. They need to do a background check then I will know. I did see a list they have so far of the students wanting to come here, and not a single one is from Italy. Seems only Brazilian, German and Taiwanese folks so far. Will keep you posted though.

When I did the search it came up with companies that specialize in foreign exchange students. I contacted two and when they emailed me back the one gave me a link to see what students are looking to come to America. Did I not google correctly??? Now, I will try again.
