Hey Biff!
Unless there were a lot of cousins ...
How about your first thought on Lucrezia's manifest was correct -
she was on line 27 joining her brother Leonardo
What if 1904 wasn't Leonardo's 1st trip
Or Leonardo and Lucrezia were very common names
(I wonder who the Saints for Civita are)
I think your first thought Civita, Cosenza, Calabria was correct
otherwise wouldn't Antoio's naturalization paperwork have stated Civitanova?

1905 manifest for Agostino Cervino travelling with another Leonardo Cervino lines 14 and 13
Name: Agostino Cervnio
Arrival Date: 24 Apr 1905
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1889
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ethnicity/RaceÂ/Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Ship Name: Germania
Last residence: Civita
Destination Lattimer Mines to join brother Leonardo and sister Lucrezia
The more I look, the more I believe the family was from Civita in Cosenza. But I can't explain the Cittanuova on Lucrezia's manifest.

Re: Looking for information about Antonio D'Angelo
Perhaps we're looking at a chain migration?
Here's a 1900 census with D'Angelo's and a Cervino boarder

Re: Looking for information about Antonio D'Angelo
That Leonardo looks like the one travelling with Agostino in 1905, and is likely the same cousin whom Lucrezia joined.
It sure looks like a chain migration. Thus far, we've identified Cervinos, D'Angelos, and D'Andreas from Civita who emigrated to the Lattimer Mines/Milnesville area. Wonder if there were other families?
Passport application for Leonardo Cervino (born 1878)
Name: Leonardo Cervino
Birth Date: 20 Mar 1878
Birth Place: Civita Cosenza, Itay
RESIDENCE: Ladimer (Lattimer) Mines, Pennsylvania
Passport Issue Date: 30 Jun 1920
Interesting to note the reference to Isleton (Hazelton), same spelling as on Angelantonio D'Angelo's 1896 manifest.

Re: Looking for information about Antonio D'Angelo
Some history on the Lattimer Mines and the Lattimer Massacre. Unfortunately, the Lattimer Massacre is a largely forgotten piece of American labor history.

WOW!
Biff
I'll bet that's the correct Antonio D'Angelo.
The name is correct and the only other place it occurs is on the manifest you found.
I agree, the birth date is the same (off by only the year)
And of course his 1st son is Francesco
What a neat record!
Congratulations on your find.

Re: Looking for information about Antonio D'Angelo
Valarie and Biff,
You both did great work here. I can confirm that every assumption you made looks accurate. The names that you dug up are all related.
The water gets a little muddy when I try to find my father's (Anthony D'Angelo) biological mother. She was married to my grandfather (Joseph D'Angelo), the same Joseph that you found that was born around 1912. Her name was Margaret Sperano or Sparano and we have not been able to find anything on her except that we lost contact with her in the beginning of the 1940's. She was born around 1915. Margaret and Joseph possibly lived in the Bronx and/or Queens NY and she was supposed to have been from New Jersey. All of my relatives from that era are gone and so far you two have been our only link to the past.
I cant thank you both enough. Your investigative skills are very keen. And thank you for sending that information to my father. He and I were both pleased and surprised that you found him and sent it to him.

Re: Looking for information about Antonio D'Angelo
Possible 1930 census for Joseph D'Angelo
Name: Joseph Dangelo
Home in 1930: Queens, Queens, New York
Age: 19
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1911
Relation to Head of House: Brother-in-law
Household Members: Name Age
August (Agostino) Cervino 39, born Italy
Rose Cervino 30, born Pennsylvania
Rose Cervino 12, born Pennsylvania
Mary Cervino 10, born Pennsylvania
James Cervino 8, born Pennsylvania
Dominick Cervino 6, born Pennsylvania
Richard Cervino 7/12, born Pennsylvania
Nicholas Dangelo 23, brother in law, born Pennsylvania
Joseph Dangelo 19, brother in law, born Pennsylvania
One problem with the census is the inclusion of brother in law Nicholas.
