How did my Mother enter Ellis Island without any record

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

How did my Mother enter Ellis Island without any record

Postby GarBar » 31 Mar 2009, 00:05

My Grandparents and her daughter, my Mother, arrived at Ellis Island on or about April 1914.

There is no record of them arriving.

My Mother was more than a year old and sick.

Is it possible that they were held there until she was better but was never entered in the Ellis Island records?

Thanks.....I appreciate the help......Gar

Hi and welcome to the forum, :D :D

Is it possible they entered at another port? (Boston or Philly) Or their names are so mangled, you can't find them? Or mother and daughter are under mother's maiden name?

If you want us to help you search, post names and dates. some people here are miracle workers.

Hi Misbris, Master, I have checked most everything you said and then some. But, here is the information that I use:

Arcangelo Lagnese, Grandfather (he is the key)-born 1885
Giovannina Maria Rosa DeSanto or DiSanto (Grandmother)-born 1887
Maria Lagnese (their daughter and my Mother)-born 1912

Left Naples April 1914 (Mother was 16 months old and sick)
Arrived about 2 weeks later in Pennsylvania

thanks for any help.........Gar

I know that you probably have seen these, but is either one your grandfather?

It will be easier to search if you know their town of origin.

Hi Gar and Mibris,

This is the second arrival for Arcangelo in May 1912... he was leaving in Italy, in Camigliano (Caserta Province - Campania region) his wife Giovanna Grazia De Santis and was joining his brother? Giuseppe Lagnese in NY. He stated he was in the U.S. before (NY), from 1909 to 1911.
