requesting certificates from Italy

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

requesting certificates from Italy

Postby mexicocaribbean » 23 May 2009, 13:24

Hello

I am in the processs of applying for Italian citizenship and the last step is to obtain birth and marriage certificates from my great grandfather/grandmother's hometown. I have all the information including name, DOB, etc. They are from a town called Popoli in Abruzzi. Does anyone know if I can request these my email, how long it would take, cost, who to address this to and if there's a website for the town hall in Popoli.
Any information on this subject would be appreciated.

thanks

Denis

I recently sent a message to the comune in Popoli requesting information on getting birth certificates and marrigae certificate for my great grandmother and grandfather. I don't know how long it takes to get a response or if I will get any response at all.
I know there are services out there that do that for a fee. Has anyone used these services before or is it just as easy to request these my myself?

thanks

Denis

Denis -
Did you ever have any luck getting your family documents from Popoli last year? I hope to get my Italian passport also - some of my family is from the same town. If so, how long did it take? I had heard the request needed to be translated into Italian. Is that true?

thanks!
