Help needed in locating relative arrival...

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Help needed in locating relative arrival...

Postby Mardi » 10 Jun 2009, 18:46

Looking for information on Carlo Lee Dimicelli. The only information that I have is that he was born July 03, 1898 in Corleone, Sicily. He could have arrived in 1900 or 1901, do not know which port. Have not been able to locate him on a Census.

Also do sure if spelling of his name got changed, once he arrived in the US

He married a Jennie, in Houston, Texas February 02, 1930.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Mardi,
I'm so glad we could find it :D .
Women in Italy keep their father's surname.
It wouldn't have been until after she arrived in the US that Antonina would have started using her husband's surname.

Simone, what a great idea - I bet you're right.
Great finds for Jennie.
I thought I had 1920 in Houston for the DiMiceli's by looking for son Luke b 1910 +/- 1 yr, the census pages are mislinked on ancestry 8O

Valarie,

Based on some searching, I believe that Jennie's maiden name might be
Trumbaturi which is found in Corleone.

Hi Mardi,

I used the advanced search on ancestry
(No name)
checked exact for the following:

Born 1896 +/- 2yrs (looking for Sam or Carlo)
Italy
LA, St Mary

only 90+ results for 1910
Samuel Marcharie
parents: Gaton, Antonia

looked likely

Mardi,

In another thread from last year, Valarie suggested you try this free site. If you haven't done so, search Texas Deaths for surname "Trombatore" and "Dimicelli". There are a number of records pertaining to these families that will help fill in the blanks in your family tree.
FamilySearch Labs

For example, here's a death certificate for Carlo's father.
Gaetano Dimicelli Death Certificate

I am actually Mardi's cousin, and was the one looking for the infomation. I guess what I am looking for now is help with finding when Gaetano Di'Micelli came over. he obviously came before Carlo and the rest of his family since that's what the previous manifest says. So if anyone could help with that i'd be soooooooooooooooooo happy. I am trying to put together a family tree for the Di'Micelli side of my family since we already have the Trombatore side. Any help you coudl give me would be AWESOME!!!

Thanks!
