Birth Certificate

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Birth Certificate

Postby DD0428 » 30 Jul 2009, 13:27

We live in NY and my grandmother has an italian birth certificate. We tried to get her a non-drivers license but the motor vehicle would not accept the birth certificate as proof of id because it is in italian. She really wants to go on vacation with us; how do we go about getting her a proper gov't issued id? Thanks for your help.

Each state has specific rules and lists of what documents are acceptable to prove identify. Ask your DMV what documents she needs.

The links above is your states requirements.

Have the birth certificate translated. Ask your DMV office nearest you who is authorized to translate her birth certificate for a NY State ID card. They are fussy since many illegal aliens try to obtain one since it looks very much like a drivers licence so they are wary. I am sure she can prove she is a US citizen or Legal permanent resident alien if they ask. =Peter=
