My Grandfather...James (Giacomo) Badamo

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

My Grandfather...James (Giacomo) Badamo

Postby Liz4sun » 15 Sep 2009, 01:07

Hi I need some help. I found a 1920 Census, 1930 Census and Draft card information for my GF born 4 june 1896 in Castellammare del Golfo Sicily. Paperwork states he came to America in 1903 at age 7. Can not find any manifests with his name on it. My GGF's paperwork shows he was married when he came to America in 1906 and was 33 years old so his estimated year of birth would have been 1873 also born in Castellammare del golfo Sicily. But his manifests show he was traveling alone...any suggestions? Already check Ellis island.com, Ancestory.com., familysearch.org
I'd appreciate any help anyone might have for me.
Liz

Immigrants frequently came by themselves, leaving their family behind, got a job and such, and then went back to bring the family.

Wow thank you. I will check Vincenzo I was told Giacomo was used for James.
Suanj...this last lost does sound familiar to my Mom. Unfortunately my day passed away in 1974 and as an adult I have a lot of questions. I believe those are the names of my Dad's Aunts and Uncles. And my ggf Mariano his wife's name was Mary. Thanks again for everyones help.
Any suggestions on Birth or marriage certificates?

for the birth certificate of Vincenzo/James you can write here:
Servizi Demografici
Via Speranza, 15
91014 Castellammare Del Golfo (TP)
Italy

anagrafe @ castellammaredelgolfo.org NO SPACES
form letter: http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... /index.asp

for marriage certificate you must request it in USA; the record:
Badamo James Jul 17 1918 #8053 certificate number (1918) Kings
maybe some other friend here can give you right way abt that....
for all civil records you can try in Mormon's microfilms:

Place Italy, Trapani, Castellammare del Golfo

Topics Italy, Trapani, Castellammare del Golfo - Census
Italy, Trapani, Castellammare del Golfo - Church records
Italy, Trapani, Castellammare del Golfo - Civil registration

Suanj,
Thank you so much you have been most helpful. I was wondering though how you came across the marriage information for my GF? I know he was married twice. With his first wife he had 3 children, one being my Dad. My GM unfortunately committed suicide and my GF remarried and had 4 more children. I'm assuming the marriage record you found was to my Dad's Mom since he was born in 1922. I know you gave me a #8053 but I can't view any documents with that #. Do I need to request them from the county he was married in?
Thank you again for all your help.
Liz

At the risk of repeating myself I would like to that you again. I have just printed out the request sheets and hopefully they will mail be a copy of the marriage certificate. I know I couldn't have done it without all your help. You are very kind.
All the best to you
Liz
