Help reading an immigration record.

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Help reading an immigration record.

Postby angicaples » 21 Nov 2009, 15:25

I have found this record through ancestry.com and it that has several pieces of information that I cannot read.

I think this may be my ancestors, but need to verify a few things. If anyone can see this and help me read it, I'd greatly appreciate it!

This is for Vincenzo and Salvatore Bentivegna; line numbers 9 & 10 on this immigration record. This one has 2 pages to it.

On the first page where it show's who was left in the country that the immigrant left:

Where it says Wife "something" Angela. Can't tell what that "something" may be. I believe our Angela's last name may have been Zabbia. Can't tell if the 1st letter is a T, or what.

On the 2nd page:
1. Years in the US 1907(or 1909?)/1914
2. Where he was at that time? Maybe Galvaston??
3. The friend or relative...can't tell what the first two words are before Guisseppe. I'm hoping that if I can tell what the friends last name was, that may give me another avenue to search since I cannot find my ancestor before 1923 when his first child was born in Texas.

This is the link to the record's first page. If anyone has better eyes than me, I would appreciate you taking a look!

Hi!

Linking to an image on ancestry. com rarely works
It's easier to save it to an image hosting service then post the link

Is this it?
14 Dec 1914, SS Patria, Palermo to NY
lines 9-10
page 1
page 2

Hi,

I've posted your ancestry pages on photobucket for viewing. Good luck.

Page 1
Last residence was Corleone

Relative left behind: wife T? Angela in Corleone
mother as above

edit: checked Ellis Island for possible names. Labia is a surname from Corleone and is a possibility.

Page 2

Final Destination is Galveston, TX and they have a ticket to the final destination.

Paid for the passage themselves and in possession of $40.00

Has been in the USA before. Dates: 1909-1914 (my best guess) and in Galveston.

Name of friend of relative ? ? Giuseppe, Galveston, TX

Thank you for doing that!

Yeah I wish I could figure out the friends name in Texas. I know our ancester ended up in Bessmay Texas, which is north of Houston, by 1923.

I thought if I could search for the friend, I may could find another clue.
