Italian Immigration to Puerto Rico

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Italian Immigration to Puerto Rico

I'm looking for ancestors from Italy. Surname Valentin/Valentini....
Great Grandfather born in Italy around 1873 (thereabouts). Place of origin, Sicily. Great Grandfather known as Avelino Valentin (could have dropped the i, once immigrated to Puerto Rico). Can anyone help w/the immigration process?

If you know the town in Sicily that your g-grandfather came from, you can go to www.paginebianche.it, the Italian White Pages, to look up those with the same surname that still live in that town, as your grandfather had(Valentini).

You may also want to check with the US Social Security Administration, if
you have your g-grandfather's SS#. Their records may have his point of origin in Italy or other useful info.

There may also be some branch of the local government in Puerto Rico that can provide the kind of info you seek, but I don't know which that might be.
