Amadio Pesce

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Amadio Pesce

Postby apesce65 » 03 Jan 2010, 14:37

My Great Grand Father Amadio Pesce was born in Siano Italy on 18 Oct 1878, (best my research will show).
I am trying to find the names of his parents.
City: Siano, Province: Salerno, Region: Campania

My question is what are the proper steps to find this out?
Someone told me that there are people in the area for hire that will go and look this up for me since most of this information is in local churches not in government offices. Is this true?
If so can some one recommend a reputable person who will do this?

Adding to VJ's comment, when writing to the comune, if you request your ancestor's birth certificate (Estratto Per Riassunto Per Atto Di Nascita), it will include the given name(s) of his father and full maiden name of his mother.

While you are at it, you can aslo request his marriage certificate (Estratto Per Riassunto Per Atto Di Matrimonio). This service is nearly always provided at no charge.
