I think I hit a road block.......help

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

I think I hit a road block.......help

Postby reneek232000 » 13 Mar 2010, 18:18

Last fall I sent a request to Rome for my GGF Death certificate. They sent me a letter back with this high lighted.- La richiesta deve essere inoltrata dall'interessato allegando FOTOCOPIA DEL DOCUMENTO DI RICONOSCIMENTO CONTROFIRMATA.
Se il richedente e persona diversa dall'interessato allegare DELEGA firmata e la fotocopia del documento di riconscimento del delegato ( oltra a quello del richiedente).-

From what I understood from that is they needed signed identification of the person requesting, so I sent a signed copy of my drivers license on two different occasions. It is now mid march and I still haven't heard anything back.
To make it worse I e mailed a friend in Italy and he told me they want my Italian identification or passport, which I don't have because I am not an italian citizen.

I am so confused now, and just to let you know my GGF was an American citizen when he died in Rome. I also called Cleveland Ohio ( where he lived and was buried) and they told me to get the certificate from Rome,

I don't know where to go now. I have ALL my documents!!!! except the GGF death. All the documents are perfect. My GF was born before my GGF naturalized. I know I qualify. I would hate all of this hard work to go down the drain over this stupid death certificate. I also contacted Miami and asked them if I needed it because my GGF was born in 1883 so there would be no way that he would still be alive. They wrote back in cap locks saying " WE REQUIRE IT !! "

Many people on here have told me not to worry about the death certificate in Miami. Someone even told me they didnt even take his, but I feel like I need this because I am not going to wait over a year to make a new appointment because of one document, that I feel is pointless. Can someone help or re translate what they need from me. Maybe the person who translated that is wrong.

I don't know if this will help or not, but I would contact the cemetery where he is buried at...... I would think that they have to have a copy of the death certificate..........Sal4

Send LIVIO a PM and see if he can straightenthings out for you. He is not in the forum for the moment. If not then call or write to the American Embassy since he was a US citizen and ask them for their assistance.

At the very least they can make a telephone call and intercede for you and find out whats needed quicklly and quietly. =Peter=

The Italian Privacy Laws do not allow documentation to be released to 'non interested parties'. If you have a genealogist doing the work for you then they should present and ID document for you together with one of their own.

For this reason any application for the release of certain classes of document should be accompanied by a photocopy of a 'signed' document which contains your photograph. Your current drivers license and your current passport will both be acceptable - it doesn't matter which country issued it as long as it is yours!
If you think education is expensive - try ignorance!
