Does USCIS take longer than 3 months?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Does USCIS take longer than 3 months?

Postby DeFilippis78 » 19 Mar 2010, 00:08

I know for an index search they say 3 months. Well I submitted a search at the beginning of December for one person and the end of December for another. According to their website they are still working on mid November and some earlier :( Im at my 3 month mark and they are at least 2-6 weeks away from my requests! Is this the usual?

I have had some stuff come back within weeks and other requests take 3-6 months. It all depends on the case specifics and probably the worker/clerk who picks up your request.

This is just the basic initial index search to see if someone naturalized. I was just wondering if although they say 3 months, it takes longer. I know its going to come back no record found and then I need the letter of non existence, which I read can take a year! So Im just getting a little nervous.

no need to be nervous, it all works out in the end... :) waiting is the hard part, but a huge part of the overall process. I am also in the waiting line...

You are always reminding me to be patient and calm. Your like my husband...Mr Cool. Im quite the opposite unfortunately. But I always try to take your advice and stay level headed...somewhat :)

Once I made the appointment its like the pressure was on. And when no one, anywhere is responding to my paperwork requests it rattles my nerves.

more than likely you will have more than one appointment at the consulate. I have read a few cases where everything was cut and dry and perfect the first meeting and that was the end of it, but that wasn't my experience, and I feel that I had all my documents in order. Anyhow, after your first initial appointment, the follow ups on your case should be much easier, so no worries about not having all the documents or all the responses. Just be firm and persistent and get the job done... :) that is my plan at least... still waiting on USCIS for the alien registration card for my m-ggM (who is not in the blood line - argh) and my wife's court order for the birth certificate correction, unfortunately this won't happen until mid April... :(

You are a very patient man. The whole thing with the alien registration card for non blood line is insane. I think its bad enough they need birth certificates and death but this is beyond that. I heard they dont even look at them and some dont even keep them! Why do they want that from you again?

Yeah I am not sure of the process, or the verification of any documents for that matter.

They just want another proof that my m-ggF never naturalized, which might be evident on this ARC for my m-ggM. The USCIS letters (which should be the UTMOST AUTHORITATIVE response) were not enough apparently, coupled with the NARA, local courts, district courts, INS (1997), the 1920 and 1930 census, WWI draft card, 1941 decl. of intent of m-ggM, etc... ALL these documents that PROVE he never naturalized, were not enough. silly really... not much I can do about it... just enjoying the ride and the waiting line...

lol - it is just out of my hands... not much I can do to control it, so it doesn't really bother me. I am perplexed as to why I am digging for these extraneous documents, but until I am a citizen or told I can't apply otherwise, I am just doing what they ask. I have the free time, so I don't worry about it...

I am still waiting, it's been 2 months now. I expect it will be some time before they get to my request. Sometimes it's a very long wait and then there are times when you will be taken by surprise and get a very timely reply. I don't have high expectations when it comes to how long they[USCIS] will take to get to me. You will hear from them, patience is your best 'friend' right now.

I requested my grandfather's Naturalization February 4th and just received it April 10th. I provided them with the serial number, the other search takes longer.
