Help Me Find A Manifest

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Help Me Find A Manifest

Postby donnawright » 28 Mar 2010, 06:17

Here are the facts I already know: The party I am looking for is my GF, Tommaso Tomaino from Pianopoli/Catanzaro/Calabria who emigrated to Wellsville OH

1. Found 2 Ellis Island arrivals via stevemorse.org by searching "Pianopoli"
2. One 1905 transcribed as Tommasino
3. One 1906 transcribed as Tomaicio (stamped non-immigrant alien)

4. His wife Caterina Curcio gave birth to Salvatore December 1908.
5. She came came in 1912 along with two children (Francesco and Salvatore -- both of these boys names were transcribed as Eomaino).
6. Assuming he was there for the conception of this child earlier in 1908, there should be another passage for Tommaso Tomaino 1908 or later. Tommaso was born Dec 1873.

7. I do not know if he is in the 1910 census.

Anyone wantto take a look? I'm stuck on this one for now.

Thanks ... Donna

His (I presume it is his) WWI Draft Card puts his birthday at May 16, 1873. Place of birth could be Pianopoli but I am not convinced.

See this thread if you are interested in obtaining a better copy of this document at little cost.

Thank you, the draft registration is his, although the stato di famiglia I have from Pianopoli gives his DOB as Nov 12 1873 (my mistake in first post where said December.

The manifest is definitely not his. It gives a reference to his wife, Gregoria... which is not my grandmother.

Thank you for looking. I am toying with the idea that he went back to Italy again after his 1906 US arrival and stayed awhile. Since my grandmother came in 1912, I will be looking for a passage from 1908 - 1912.

Thank you again.

Check this one. Wife's first name is Caterina, but not the correct last name.

This manifest is new information for me, so thank you. It is not my GF, but perhaps a first cousin to him -- if my GF Tommaso's father Paolo had a brother who also named his son Tommaso --both brothers naming their sons after the babys' grandfather. So perhaps a clue to the name of my GGF.

Thus, alas, still looking for a manifest for my GF Tommaso Tomaino between 1908 and 1912.

Thank you both for your time and interest.
