Giunta family

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Welcome to the forum! :-)

We would be happy to try and find information for you. Can you help us a little by offering more details? For instance, do you know the approximate year of Paolo Giunta's birth? Did Concetta die in 1908 in the USA, or in Italy? When you say that Paolo disembarked in Louisiana, is that because you have his ship manifest? Or did you gather this information from some other source? Was Rose the only child not born in the USA?

From your note I am guessing that you have the 1920 and 1930 Census for this family...right?

Anything you provide will help.

T.

Per family oral history Congetta, Paolo and their daughter Rose-assumed- arrived in New Orleans and lived in Napoleonville for some unknown time. Paolo was born abt. 1967 in Sicily. Concetta died in Pueblo, Colorado as did Paolo/Paul. Rose's place of birth is also in question, it may have been Sicily or the US. Rose reported her birthplace as Italy, Texas, Colorado in Census--she told me and others that she was born in New Orleans. There are some family members who assumed this was incorrect---there is no indication why she would have done this. 3 other children were born in Colorado beginning in abt. 1904. Yes, I have the 1910, 1920 1930 census. I have the nuber of a ship's manifest that arrived in NY bearing "Rosaria GUInta"--6 y-o but with no other family or friends that I recognize. that Manifest ID # is 11022 and 82925 from national Archives. I have not been able to access any data on these numbers from National Archives. thnx

I apologize if you already have checked these records, but I find them very interesting for your research...

1920 United States Federal Census

Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Marital Status: Single
Race: White
Sex: Female
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes

Household Members: Name Age
Ignazio Pullaro 34 head, born in IT, immigr. year 1886
Rosa Pullaro 28 wife, born in IT, immigr. year 1895
Joseph Pullaro 10 son, born in CO

So, possibily Rosa Pullaro's maiden name was Rosa Giunta....

then I found this interesting arrival manifest:

June 14, 1897:
Rosa Filocco, age 28 travelling with her daughter Rosaria Giunta, age 6, going to new Orleans LA:

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0158

and this other:

September 24, 1898:

Josephine was Rosa Giunta's younger sister living with her because their mother died in 1908. Rosa Giunta Pullaro was my grandmother, she married Ignazio Sam Pullaro in 1906. He's another mystery! This 1920 record is my father's family, all of whom i've known, and is correct with the exception of child #4, Vincient----this child is exactly the same age as my father and was baptized "Vincent". My father never used the name Vincent, he grew up as Charles. His sister Mary said that Chrles and Vincent are the same and had no explaination as to why the name change. There is no known deceased twin or otherwise missing child in the family. i have gotten back as far as the 1910 census with Rosa and that's where the trail has stopped. I'll followup on the last 2 findings; however, Giusseppe Giunta is not a known family name. a thnx

The american version of Giuseppe is Joseph and Joe may be a short version...
Do you know the name of Paul's father? or do you know Concetta's maiden name?

concetta's maiden name may have been Servachio. Noticed that this Junda family lived on Beech street where other members of the family lived in 1930. let me outline for you...
Paolo Giunta imm. to the US </= 1900--w/ or w/o wife Concetta
and daughter Rosa-b.1891. believed to be in Pueblo Co by 1900

Paolo-Concetta had 2 more children who survived beginning in 1904 - in Pueblo, CO
Josephine- 1904 and Pete 1906
There were several children who did not survive, it is not known where they were born with the exception of twins born in Pueblo in 1900.

Another Giunta/Juinta family-father Ben(?) lived on Beech St in 1930-wife Vera(?) had 7 chd. inclucing Ben and Joe. They were "cousins", don't know how close as cousins they were.
are you a member of the staff?
This record is not accessable on ancestry, i have a photocopy from Pueblo.

this is all family stuff i know, but thnx. The obits are of various aunts, uncles and cousins. We're still not any closer to finding how/when and where Paolo Giunta and his family arrived in the US and then to pueblo. OR if Rosa was born in LA--or to stretch in another direction---if Paolo and Concetta might have been married not in Sicily but in LA prior to 1891. following are data re: births of ALL their children per family oral history:

1891 Rose location? lived to adulthood
1896 Theresa died after being baptized -location?
1896 Benadito d. 1898 lived 2 yrs - location?
1900 twins died after being baptized -Pueblo county, Colo
1904 Josephine lived to adulthood
1906 Pete - lived to adulthood
1908 unknown child born/died Concetta died in childbirth

Concetta's maiden name may have been Servachio or Nicoletti

re: Rosa Filocco mentioned above w Rosaria Giunta--at the top of the next page of the manuscript are Ina and Salvatore Greco. Roasaria and the Grecos were all going to LA. Paolo Giunta was cousins with a joe greco and stayed with them in LA. Is it possible that Rosa traveled with them--parents already being in LA? we don't know. there is also a Giuseppa Giunta a few pages back. i'll continue to look for the rest of the Giuntas into US earlier.

Thanks for the update....

I asked you which was the name of Paolo's father because I noticed that the first son of Joe Junda/Junta was Ben (for italian tradition the first male born is named after the paternal grandfather)....

I believe this is Paul Giunta's brother... he stated clearly he was joining his brother Paolo Giunta in Napoleonville:

Pink67 wrote:September 24, 1898:

the first male born from Paolo and Concetta was named Benedetto too, looks like that Joe Junda and Paul were brothers....
Just my thoughts....

Possible 1893 arrival manifest for Paolo Giunta:

June 10, 1893
Paolo Giunta, age 26 (approx. birth year 1867), countryman, from S. Stefano to New York, travelling with Greco Ina Vincenzo,
