Applying with my wife

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

If you were married prior to April 27, 1983, her citizenship will be automatic as soon as your own is recognized. If this is the case (your wedding date), include your wife's translated and apostilled birth certificate along with the rest of your application documents.

If you were married after that date, she will need to apply for citizenship jure matrimoni after your own has been recognized. It is a much more complex, time-consuming, and costly process (a euro200 fee was instituted last summer). See http://www.consnewyork.esteri.it/NR/exe ... =Published for a brief explanation.
