montesano

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Yes very easy and its free of charge but YOU need the town of her origin in Sicily since most records are inthe city, town or village of origin. Further when she came to the USA did she enter thru NYC or someother port (boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore???) where did she go to live when she got here.

If she did marry Giuseppe Montesano where did this take place or where did they go to live (State?) so that we can look for his social security death record and find her actual name..... Get back to family oral history and ask more questions about her, Joe Montesano and geography inthe USA. =Peter=

Social Security Death records started in 1963 so he is of no help But Lina or Madelaine is who you return to and find her social security death index so that you can find her SS-5 application which will furnish her birthdate and parents names and hopefully the town of origin is Alimena. I will take a looksee =Peter=

The town of Alimena is www.tuttitalia.it/sicily/40-alimena and the address to write to for her birth record is located under the MUNICIPIO of the above website.

Provided that you know her real maiden name which I seem to think may be COSTA...Is this the correct maiden name?? If this is the correct maiden name (first name should be Maddalena as it is patron saint name in Alimena) then you go to this website and send a form letter asking for her birth record ESTRATTO DI NASCITA which will have her parents names.

www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/it ... tters.html
for the form letters in Italian. Its all free so just mail it to the UFFICIO DI STATO CIVILE at the address listed under MUNICIPIO in the website. =Peter=

http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resource ... efault.asp

There is a death record for Joseph Montesano available from this website, if you search the surname Montesano for the years 1910-1958.

Hi Derek....I can appreciate your enthusiasm for research..

But... you currently have 5 threads going, all related to the Montesano family. This makes it very difficult to keep track of what records have been provided, thereby avoiding duplicate efforts, not to mention.....jumping back and forth between threads gets confusing!!

Perhaps we can limit the search effort for this line to one thread, or perhaps I can condense your various threads into one??

Happy Hunting!
