NYC appointment

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

NYC appointment

Postby Drew927 » 27 Aug 2010, 14:58

My sisters have decided to apply for citizenship with me. Do I need to call the consulate and tell them or can we just show up? It would be three of us.

You should let them know. Some consulates can be pretty obnoxious on this subject...

I called the Appointment line and they told me that in order to bring additional people, I would have to schedule a new appointment. He also said that it is for only one person.

Honestly, I don't know why they take this attitude. Like I said earlier, pretty obnoxious.

You can just bring your sister along and hope that a) the guard at the reception area lets her in, b) they actually let her go upstairs to the citizenship office with you, and c) the citizenship officer doesn't get so pissed that he/she takes it out on you by complaining about every undotted "i" and uncrossed "t".

I just spoke with the Citizenship office. He told me that they will need individual appointments and need to present copies of all of our common documents. My sisters will then provide original documents of their own birth and marriage records. I will keep my march appt and they will make their own.

I tried brining my mother in to my appointment and found it to be difficult. they only let her in because we begged them and explained they told us to come back with some amendments. I just want to say keep in my that if your sisters apply on their own they will have to order their own copies of documents and that will cost you.
