Assistance Please.

Hello. I am trying to find some record of my wife's grandfather's trip from Genoa, Italy to Albany, Western Australia. I have a copy of his Naturalisation papers that state that he travelled on a ship called the "S.S. Gerre" in 1896. I believe that he may have had his wife fill in the documents for him as his english was poor, so there may be some misinterpretation. I have not been able to find a ship by that name but I have come across the "S.S Gera" which did make voyages on that path but apparently not on the date he specified. There is a family tale that he travelled here with his brother who soon returned to Italy, but I don't know how true this is. The man I am looking for was known as Angelo Isoni or Isonie or Issoni and later in life Soni. He was born in Cortenedolo in 1868, but again this date does not add up on his Marriage or Death certificates. His father was Giovanni Battista Soni and his mother Kate Perrotti. This information was gained from his Naturalisation papers. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

The Australia National Archives appears to have passenger records dating back only as far as 1924. I suggest you contact the archives reference desk to inquire where you might be able to find earlier records if they exist at all.
