Name Issue

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Name Issue

Postby dalemma » 02 Mar 2011, 17:28

My GGF came here from Staiti in 1904, named Sebastiano Lemma. His birth record from Italy says Sebastiano. He signed into Ellis Island as Sebastiano Lemma. He began using Giuseppe and Joseph, interchangeably, in America. His naturalization papers from 1940 state his name as Giuseppe Sebastiano Lemma. And several things are signed Giuseppe S. Lemma. What kind of problem could this be? Any idea on fixes? Also I have my GGM naturalization certificates (1939), but no birth record. Is this an issue if I'm using my GGF blood line? My GF was born in 1918, so that's not an issue. Thanks in advance.
