Applying for Italian Citizenship - Death certs for who?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Applying for Italian Citizenship - Death certs for who?

Postby tomassid » 16 Mar 2011, 23:57

I am applying for dual citizenship through my grandfather. me - my mother -my grandfather. I think I have all the documents and I have my gfather's death cert which was the only death cert I thought I needed. I wouldn't have to get death certs for my mother or the indirects like my gmother (since I have to submit their marriage cert)?

Thanks, Dara

You will definitely need your mother's death certificate, and may need your father's and grandmother's depending on your consulate's requirements.

Is it safe to assume that you were born on or after 1/1/1948?

Carmine, thank you for your response. Yes, I was born after 1948. Not sure how you find your consulate, I live in Pittsburgh, PA and figured I could go to either Wash DC or NYC. Is that not the case?

You must use the consulate which has jurisdiction over your legal place of residence. See http://www.ambwashingtondc.esteri.it/Am ... consolare/ for the complete list.

PS: Vice / Honorary Consulates do not process citizenship applications. It appears that you would fall under the domain of the Philadelphia consulate, http://www.consfiladelfia.esteri.it/Con ... odifyGuest

Carmine, thank you so much for your help. Not excited to go Philly, but it is what it is.
