Birth Certificate from Sciacca

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Birth Certificate from Sciacca

Postby NOLATom » 31 Mar 2011, 04:13

Hi Everyone,

I recently received my letter stating that I am in fact an Italian Citizen. I went through the Houston Consulate and my ancestors came from Sciacca. I filled out the AIRE and the letter also stated to wait a little while before requesting my birth certificate from the commune. Has anyone requested their birth certificate from Sciacca and how long did you have to wait after being recognized as a citizen? Also, although I've spent years learning French (always thought that would be my "in" to a European life), I am only just cracking the book on Italian (wanted to make sure it wasn't just a dream before I dove in); who did you have translate your letters to the commune and what exactly did you write?

Thanks for any input,
Thomas
