Needed docs for "Category 5" slightly unclear

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Needed docs for "Category 5" slightly unclear

Postby 846newyorker » 09 Jul 2011, 15:50

The documents required as listed on the consulate website for Category 5 -- citizenship through a grandparent born in U.S. before parent naturalized -- are slightly unclear.

It says you need:
- YOUR PATERNAL/MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS’ BIRTH CERTIFICATE
- YOUR PATERNAL/MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS' MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

If I'm eligible, it would only be through my mother's father. Does this mean that I need only my maternal grandparents' birth and marriage certificates (e.g. the relevant case for lineage), or both my maternal and paternal grandparents'?

I can't see why my father's side would be needed (even though they were also born in Italy, they naturalized and don't make me eligible through that line), but I don't want to make any assumptions....

Thanks!

You need only your maternal grandparents docs.
