Sangiuliano, Garito and Sgro Family

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Postby pasquale78 » 23 Aug 2011, 16:31

Any information or passport pictures of them would be great, military records etc. Both Grandfathers fought in WWII all grandparents were born in Gagliato Province of Catanzaro.

They moved to Canada in the 1950s. They have all passed on now but I would like to see if I can dig up any old documents, photos anything about them at all. Military records for my grand fathers. If you could help me out it would be much appreciated.

I will poke around. In the meantime, you might find some useful information at the Library and Archives Canada - http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-908-e.html

In Canada, it is likely that they ended up in South Porcupine, Ontario. I lived in South Porcupine from 1963-81. My best friend when I was little was Dino Sangiuliano, whose father was Dominic Sangiuliano. There were also a lot of Garitos there. Regarding the Sgros, there were two separate Sgro families, who were likely related several generations back. I don't know the one that you are looking for.
