Ship manifest question about the word "Contessa".

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Ship manifest question about the word "Contessa".

Postby italian059 » 12 Sep 2011, 19:41

I found a ship manifest on my husband's great grandmother. She came from Italy and landed in New Orleans. On it listed her ethnic background as: Contessa. Does anyone know what this means? Any information would be appreciated.

Maybe it was her place of origin in Italy, Contessa Entellina, Sicily region?
What is the name or the link to the manifest?
