Having difficulty finding any immigration records

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Having difficulty finding any immigration records

Post by zodda »

My grandparents immigrated to the U.S. in 1919 and 1920 respectively. I can not find any information on their arrival either at Ellis Island or Ancestry.com. I know that both came thru Ellis Island (but I did check other points of entry including Canada) and still having no luck. Where records kept in Italy for those who left the country? I'm at a lose and don't know what to do next. Thank you.

Italian surnames often are not correctly listed. Have you tried similar spellings? What are their names?

Have tried every possible spelling variation that I can think of. The last name is Mazzariello (Michele angelo and Pasqualina). He came over by himself and she came later with 2 children. There is nothing about their arrivals anywhere.

Do you know the names of the children?

Hi, Valarie! :-)

Thanks, that will give us some other options...
Joseph (Giuseppe?) and Concetta both born in Italy...
Maybe we can find a manifest for them?

Hey T!
I'm not having any luck finding a manifest
I think Joseph was born abt 1914 according to SSDI?
All from Avellino except Pasqualina from Brazil???
Pasqualina's maiden name might help.

Yes, Pasqualina was born in Sao Paolo in 1892. I have all the census records (which are all correct with names of family) and still can not find immigration (boats name etc.) The two born in Italy were Guiseppe and Concetta (Joseph and Constance), nothing on them either. Pasqualina's maiden name was Catalina, I have info like wedding certificates, etc just no manifests.

Hi Valarie! :D

Likewise... no luck with manifests - OR - border crossings :(
Tried Joseph/Giuseppe, but nothing that looks right.

Will join in the search for Pasqualina Catalina manifest...

I've had no luck either.
Tried partial first names w/o surnames
Tried searching Ellis using Cervinara (& Cerv*) as a town of origin
Stumped

Okay guys what do you make of this 1920 did not sail manifest? Weird coincidence?
Children's first names and ages correct per 1930 census.
Pasqua(lina)'s yob correct; maiden name almost exact.
Town correct.

Wow, Biff!!!

That really does look like the right family...yet the children have another surname. Of course, that could very well be an error (or are they children of a previous marriage?)
There is a Giuseppe Ragosta on the line above Pasqua - :?: :?:

Maybe we can find the ship on which they actually DID sail - using surname Ragosta? :-)
