I am just wondering what happens after you have received the AIRE letter - do all or only some consulates undertake a police check before issuing a new passport? I have never had an Italian passport nor have I been a resident. I am applying through the consulate in Melbourne who seem to love giving people the run around...
Thanks in advance,
Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

They check to make sure there are no outstanding warrants and that you are not wanted for any crimes that would necessitate denying you access to a passport.
Chicago only asked you if there outstanding warrents or are you standing for trial.
