Police check needed for new Italian passport applicants?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Police check needed for new Italian passport applicants?

Postby vanessam » 11 May 2012, 14:07

I am just wondering what happens after you have received the AIRE letter - do all or only some consulates undertake a police check before issuing a new passport? I have never had an Italian passport nor have I been a resident. I am applying through the consulate in Melbourne who seem to love giving people the run around...:)

Thanks in advance,

They check to make sure there are no outstanding warrants and that you are not wanted for any crimes that would necessitate denying you access to a passport.
