Success in Philadelphia!!

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Success in Philadelphia!!

Post by caridimondo »

Ciao a tutti,

As of last week, my family and I are officially Italian citizens! We received our letters from the Philly consulate which included the "certificato di cittadinanza". I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for all of your help - this is an amazing resource and everyone is so generous in sharing their advice and experiences with complete strangers.

To recap, here is a quick rundown of my situation:
-Great grandparents emigrated to PA in 1920
-Grandmother born in 1926
-GGF naturalized in 1934
-Mother born in 1956
-Eligible through GGF-GM-M bloodline
-All family members lived in PA (definitely made gather documents much easier)
-Set up appointment at the Philly consulate December 2010 (15 month wait)
-Appointment on March 1, 2012
-Met with Lea who was great. I had all documents in order with apostilles and
translations.
-No need for non-Italian bloodline documents
-Lea was impressed with my "perfect application" and said we'd hear back in 3-6
months
-Here we are exactly 3 months later, e sono un cittadino italiano!

Thanks again to everyone who has helped me over the past year and a half. If anyone out there has questions, feel free to reach out. I'm all about giving back now that I'm finished!
