Research help neeed

Postby Vman2233 » 17 Jun 2012, 21:45

Hello there,

I am at the last stages of gathering the required information for a jure sanguinis application. I'm American from Philadelphia in London now (applying in London).

I have not been able to find my grandparents (born in Italy) birth certificate. Not sure where to start. I've sent a letter to the local communes in Italy, but never heard back.

My Grandfather
Pasquale Antonio Picozzi
Birth Date: 17 Nov 1887
Death: 26 Aug 1958 (Philadelphia, USA)
Birth Place: Santa Marie Oliveto or Pozzilli, Italy

My Grandmother
Concetta Maria Capaldi
Birth: 1891
Birth Place: Campobasso, Molise, Italy (not sure if this is correct)

I'm missing some information - but don't know what else to do. Can someone help me?

Thanks very much!

Sal

Both his Naturalization and his draft registration say he from Pozzilli, Molise Italy (records are from Archivio di Stato, Isernia, e nell'Archivio di Stato, Caserta)
I would search for his birth record on film then send for your stamped extract for citzenship because then you have your records
There are record of film from Family History Library for Pozzilli (Campobasso), 1810-1899 Civil registration of births, deaths, marriages, banns, marriage documents, miscellaneous documents, citizenships from Pozzilli, Campobasso, Italy

I have had a lot of luck from this site- www.comuni-italiani.it

When I put in Santa Marie Oliveto I got a region of Pozzilli, so then I put in Pozzilli and it took me to their web site. www.comune.pozzilli.is.it

I would suggest you send an email to this address- requesting a birth record for your grandfather. comunepozzilli@comune.pozzilli.is.it.

My experience has been that they usually respond in 10 days to 2 weeks (unfortunately my responses have all been "No Record Found") but hopefully you'll have better luck. No cost to send a email. Then if they find something and you need to send $$ and an official request you can do so. You'll need to send request in Italian- can you do that or have someone help you?

Now do the same for your GM's comune and give it a whirl.
Good luck!
