I'm looking for my paternal great grandparents. The Salito family settled in Trinidad, Colorado. My grandmother was born in Colorado, however her father came from Italy. I'm not sure what part of Italy or what was his port of entry. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ok, I believe that your italian ancestor was Salvatore Salito married at Francesca Cardinale; they had this children( by a genealogic tree on ancestry.com):
-Rosalia Salito b.24 Nov 1890 El Moro, Las Animas,Colorado– d.1980 Huntington Beach, Orange, California, USA;( spouse: Onofrio/Humphrey Galasso Birth abt 1874 in Bivona, Argrigento, Sicilia, Italia Death 27 November 1931 in Trinidad, Colorado USA)
Thomas Anthony Salito 1895* – 1972 ; ( spouse: Florence Emma Ward) ( *by WWI draft registration card > BIRTH: 26 Jan 1893 - Colorado)
and some other children, no name on the genealogic tree, sorry.. I know not if the below record is right...:

great find Valarie, so Francesca Cardinali Salito was decesead; I believe that Salvatore married at Mary/Mattia( aka Mattea in italian spell) and for this reason appearing with stepchildren in 1930 census; maybe Mattea was a widow also; Salvatore died between 1930 and 1940: 1940 United States Federal Census about Matia Salito Name: Matia Salito Respondent: Yes Age: 67 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1873 Gender: Female Race: White Birthplace: Italy Marital Status: Widowed Relation to Head of House: Head Home in 1940: Trinidad, Las Animas, Colorado View Map Street: San Pedro House Number: 817 Farm: No Inferred Residence in 1935: Rural, Las Animas, Colorado Residence in 1935: Rural, Las Animas, Colorado Citizenship: Naturalized Sheet Number: 7B Number of Household in Order of Visitation: 163 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Matia Salito 67 Margaret Jones 32 daughter Doughlas Jones 5 grandson B. great find Valarie! I found that the original surname in Alia was SOLITO and not Salito.
I found the birth act of Joseph SOLITO; him first name was Isadoro changed in Joseph in USA; SOLITO Isadoro born in Alia on the 9 November 1884 #287 son of Salvatore SOLITO age 25, and Francesca Cardinale
Oh my suanj! WOW, what fantastic records you've found Surname Solito makes much more sense Perhaps we'll find their manifest in New Orleans with Isidoro? I found a note on son Isidoro (Joseph's) death in a 1903 Denver newspaper - an accident, he was jumping on/off a moving train ... Big Hug! Valarie
from the grandparent's names, daughter Anne was probably born before Rosalia
