still looking for a grandmother!

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

still looking for a grandmother!

Post by elmosgirl »

After years and years of searching, I "found" the ship's manifest that contains the information on one of my two grandmothers!
Persistence pays off
is my message today.

Both my grandmothers (and each mother and sibs) arrived in the U.S. via Castle Garden. Records at CG are incomplete and a headache to search. New additions to the CG website go up slowly if at all. Records at the Battery are themselves missing. My grandmother's manifest document's page is torn into six pieces and has missing areas where the paper is torn. My grandmother's record is now on the Ancestry site but there isn't a record of her (or mother or brother) on the CG site.

So, my message today, one we know but bears repeating, is ............don't give up!

Someday I may find that other grandmother's entry. I may not.

But today, I'm encouraged!

Noel
