Manifests to NY before Ellis Isl. 1892

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Tony........

Finally found him in the 1920 census. He was still an alien...you might be right..he may never have become a citizen.

In the 1920 census he is listed a Michale Sanfillipps in the index. The ED is 181 in Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY, page 8a. In this census it states he arrived in 1888. Something to check out. Cannot find him in 1930 so far.

Will continue to see what I can find.........

Tony....

Just found a listing for Michele Sanfilippo in Brooklyn in 1921. This is his listing for the Declaration of Intent. These are first papers filled out in the application for naturalizaiton. The volume number is #247 and the page is 60. If you live in NY you can probably access this at the public library or at the Family History Library near your home.

This should list ship of travel, date of arrival, and maybe his home town.

Good Luck,

Hi TerriLand,

The Castle Gardens manifest?? (Covers the years 1850 to 1891 and includes the following:
1851 to 1855: pre Castle Garden
1855 to 1890: Castle Garden
1890 to 1891: Barge Office )

You need a paid subscripton to Ancestry.com

If you don't have a subscription, please mention a name and year of birth... I or someone else could look it up for you...

or maybe submit a brand new post on this forum about the person of interest...

Tony,

Sorry to hijack your thread here, but ...

Was you grandfather Tony as well?
Was he possibly a casualty of WWII?

Did he live in Dobbs Ferry NY or thereabouts?

Did you attend Dobbs Ferry High School up until
1968?

If so, then we were friends in High School.
