Is it an absolute that one does not have to speak Italian in order to be granted citizenship? I mean, it is an absolute right based on blood????
(Of course, I know it would be advantageous to learn to speak Italian better than my rudimentary reading knowledge....and I may or may not do that in the future....it's just that there are other languages I'm concentrating on at this point in my life....)
Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.
