Surname: Mini from Carini, Sicily

Post by minibutt »

Hi,
I am trying to locate birth or death certificates for my grandfather Leonardo Mini. He was born in Carini (I think). I do know he died in Carini around 1945-1946. Also trying to locate birth/death certificates for his wife Francesca. She died around the same time. They also had 2 daughters that died, I believe, after them. I was told that Carini did not issue birth or death certificates around that time. Does anybody know if this is true, or where I can obtain any information? Thank you so much!

Could you give more specifics on your grandfather? I maintain a Carini Research site, Yahoo Group and Forum. I also have the complete church marriage records from 1568-1891.

The Carini Exchange

Carini Yahoo Research Group

Carini Genealogy Forum

Hello,
if you need death record of your ancestor, you can't have it before 70 years from the death (1945+70=2015), because the italian law say that.
If you need birth record, it is easier because I guess your ancestor was born more than 70 years ago.
So I suggest to contact Cemetery of Carini

Mr. Giambanco Massimo
manager of burial service to Carini Cemetery
cell.phone +39 329.7974499

He may help you and tell in what part of cemetery your ancestor is buried, when he died, age at death, name of father of death ancestor, job of death ancestor.

I hope it helps, bye ricbru

Thanks for all your answers.
As far as the marriage certificate, I do have a copy of that. My grandfather, Leonardo Mini, married my grandmother, Francesca Cucuzza
in 1925. I cannot make out the actual date. I know he came to the US for the first time April 19, 1910 on a ship named the Lazio. I do have that document. There is no record of his entry into Ellis Island. I think I read somewhere that that ship may have entered at Boston, but cannot get those records. He became a US citizen in 1922. I know he came back and forth between the 2 countries several times. My main interest is copies of death certificates to find out when and how my grandparents and my 2 aunts (my father's sisters) passed away. I will try to email the mayor of Carini to see if he can get me the address of the Carini cemetery. Thank you again for your help!

Is that taken from the ship's manifest? I really appreciate it.

Do you know if there is anyway I can print this where I can view the whole page? I was trying to see if I could show my dad today. Everytime I try printing it, it just shows a portion of the page.

That is a copy of the actual manifest... hope I understood well... :P

The text information I posted above of Leonardo's information was a transcription done by "who knows...?" so... there are probably spelling errors here and there... which is common.

If Francesca made it to the USA, were you able to find her manifest?

No Francesca never made it to the US. She stayed in Carini with the kids. There were 5 total. Leonardo would come to the US to work so he could save money to bring the family here. He finally had earned enough, so he went back to Sicily to get the family, but then WWII broke out, so they couldn't leave Sicily. I think they passed away either before the war ended or just after. The 3 remaining kids then each came here on their own when they were old enough. I know my father was 15 when he finally made it here. But they were born US citizens, so they had to get here before a certain age or lose their citizenship.

Just thought of something... the jpeg files...

These pages are about 30" wide... you may have to "tile" these when you print...

Or maybe print at 40% and use legal size paper? 8..5 x 14 to get that page on one sheet...
