Need help on family arrival!!!

Postby Mardi » 19 Apr 2014, 14:38

Looking for help in locating an arrival of Bernardo Trombatore with his daughter Brazilla and wife (?). I found a Bernardo Trombatore arriving on the Ship Elysia in 1/13/1882 but could not fine his name or daughter on the list of passengers.
Family came to New Orleans but later settled in California.
Would appreciate any help at all.
Also if this helps any - Brazilla Trombatore (Born 7/27/1881) married a Jacob Rina(Reina) in California.

Thank you,
Mardi

Hello Mardi! :-)

Do you have this Naturalization record for Ben Trombatore?
It is the Declaration of Intent from State of California stating that he arrived in December 1881 at the Port of New Orleans... (unfortunately, no ship name given)
His wife and daughter probably came sometime after, AND they may be listed under the mother's maiden name...

U.S., Naturalization Records - Original Documents, 1795-1972 (World Archives Project) about Ben Trombatore
Name: Ben Trombatore
Age: 36
Birth Date: abt 1854
Birth Location: Italy
Arrival Year: 1881

EDIT to add:
Located a 1900 US Census for a Brezalla Trombatore...
Daughter of Joseph Trombatore and Anna Trombatore, residing in California
However, she is listed as born 1886 in Louisiana :?:
Father's immigration year given as 1880, mother's immigration year not stated...
But... same couple in 1910 Census has Anna's immigration year as 1887

Thanks Tessa78, no I did not have this Naturalization record for Ben Trombatore?

On the 1900 Census could be related to Bernardo Trombatore and his family that I looking for. The Brazilla (daughter of Bernardo) was born July 27, 1881 in Italy and Died Jan 17, 1956 in Los Angeles... She married Jacob Rina/Reina...looks like her mothers maiden name was Tomsella.

I sure appreciate your help....Have a Happy Easter.

Still looking for the arrival of Bernardo Trombatore with his daughter Brazilla (7/22/1881)and wife (maiden name of Tomella). Family came to New Orleans in the late 1880's (1886-87). Also can not find any US Census on the Family. They later moved to California. Thanks all for your help...

Mardi
I found a baptism record for a Blasia Trombaturi (Latin spelling of the name in the church record). I believe this is the same person found in the census records that I posted, although the baptism is a week earlier than the date of birth given in the California death index. The mother's surname, however, is given as Accamanno. Record #306 dated July 20, 1881 in Corleone for Blasia, daughter of Bernardo Trombaturi and Paola Accamanno. I have seen this mother's surname in other Trombatore entries in the California death index.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,351280701

record is at bottom left-#306 (image #154)

The state civil records for Corleone are online as well, but the 1881 civil birth records are not there, as far as I can tell. I was interested in seeing that record and comparing it to the Latin church record, but no luck in finding it.

Erudita

I also see that there is a Bernard Trumbaturi (with the surname spelled as I see it in the Corleone state civil records) arriving at the port of New Orleans. Possibly someone with a subscription to ancestry.com will be nice enough to upload that passenger list for us to view, in case it is the Bernard for which you are searching.

Thank you so much Erudita for spending time in searching out this family for me...I do believe you have come across the correct family that I a searching. I will check out the Trumbaturi's you have found. I do have a subscription to ancestry.com and look for the ship the family arrived on. Did you happen to notice the name of the ship of their arrival, if so I could start from their or see if some of the other Trombatore's that I have also arrived on the same ship. I want to thank you so much for your help.

Hi Mardi
It's all adding up except for the mother's maiden name of Tomasello.

link to New Orleans passenger list

If the link for ancestry doesn't work, it is

I can't view the record since I don't have a subscription, but once you get that link, you will see the first name Bernard. I have no idea what year this passenger list is from and it may not be the correct person.

I also found the civil and church marriage record of Bernardo Trumbaturi (Trumbadore in the civil record). They married on May 15, 1876 in Corleone. He was the son of Salvatore Trumbadore and Biagia Lampa, and Paola was the daughter of Salvatore Accamanno and Francesca Paola Caccamo.

All this is Great information. I did pull it up from ancestry.com....but I do not know how to post the link here on ItalianGenealogy. Only thing I question is his arrival date as being 14 May 1906 Palermo, Italy ship Vincenzo Florio. If you go up a ways at the U.S., Naturalization Records - Original Documents, 1795-1972 (World Archives Project) about Ben Trombatore, dates do not match.
On the mother's maiden name of Tomasello, that was the name given to be by the Great Great grandson of Bernardo Trombatore. Thanks again for your help.

No need to post the passenger list as long as you can see and eliminate it. I could only see his name in the index and not his age or date.

The mother's maiden Tomasello in the California death index was obviously reported by someone who really didn't have the correct info.

Now if we could only find the actual manifest for Bernardo to see if any other family member was traveling with him. I am also wondering if he was a widower when he came to the U.S. The reason I say this is because I found the following, which you may have already seen. Of course, without additional details, it is impossible to determine if this could be another marriage for him. For one thing, we should see if there is a death record for Paola Accamanno among the Corleone records. I also tried to see if Paola Accamanno was on a passenger list with their daughter, but I had no luck with that.

Jacob Trombatore, "California, County Marriages, 1850-1952"
Name: Jacob Trombatore
Event Type: Marriage
Event Date: 21 Apr 1909
Event Place: Los Angeles, California, United States
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Birth Year (Estimated): 1887
Father's Name: Bernardo Trombatore
Mother's Name: Pabalina Acomando
Spouse's Name: Jennie Trombatore
Spouse's Age: 21
Spouse's Gender: Female
Spouse's Birth Year (Estimated): 1888

Spouse's Mother's Name: Anna Antonio
Page: 96
GS Film number: 1033216

Image Number: 00056

This Jacob Trombatore is the son of Bernardo Trombatore and Paola Accamanno (Accamando).I think in later church records, the priests had the latter spelling of the surname. According to his WW II draft registration card, he was born in Patterson Louisiana on Oct 3, 1887. His middle name was Michael.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1861144

He is in the WWI draft registration as being born on Oct 3, 1887, but in the California death index, his date of birth is given as Oct 30, 1887. He died in Los Angeles on Nov 3, 1950. The Jennie he married is the daughter of the Joseph and Anna Trombatore on the 1900 census that T originally found for you. Joseph is in the early California death index as having died on 3/18/1935 at the age of 80 (born 1855). Anna Trombatore is in the same index as having died on Jan 19, 1932 at the age of 77. I don't know if the father Joseph Trombatore was related to your Bernardo Trombatore. That is something you will have to pursue.
