I have all records necessary, including Italian birth and marriage records from the 1800's, to apply for dual citizenship, however I cannot find the US birth certificate of an intermediary grandparent. I have his death and marriage certificate. I have his social security information. I know where (Sonoma county, CA) and when he was born, but neither the state of California or the county have any birth record. Does anyone know if the SF consulate will accept a baptismal record in lieu of a US birth certificate for an intermediary relative?
Thank you johnnyonthespot. I may need to request a delayed birth record. I am having trouble finding the baptismal certificate, even though I was able to find one for his older sister (should think they would have been baptized the same place) The fact that he was born fewer than 2 months after the 1906 earthquake in an area that was badly damaged is probably a big part of the problem.
