Family Members Dual Citizenship

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Family Members Dual Citizenship

Postby SamW » 28 Jun 2005, 02:28

I am in the process of collecting the documents needed to apply for dual citizenship from the US. My grandparents are the of Mannino Family of San Piero Patti, Messina

My question is about how I can extend this citizenship (if granted to me) to my wife, who is also a US citizen, and our children all of whom are over 21 years of age.

It appears that my children may need to make separate and complete applications on their owe behalf based on their great grandfather – the same person I am using, being my grandfather – so they will have all of the documents. Is there someway they use my dual citizenship (if granted) rather than making such applications?

I have not been able to find anything concerning my wife (of 25 years of marriage) and how she could become a dual citizen. Would she automatically be considered a citizen based on our marriage (once I have been granted citizenship?

I would like to at this time if there is anything I can do as I go through the process to make it easier for them to apply in the future.

Thanks,
Sam

Thanks for the leads.

Italiamerica.org had a great set of FAQ and helped send me in the right direction.

It appears that since we were married before 1983 my wife will only need to apply for a passport! That would be great.

It is still unclear about how to include my childern. The above site did make it clear that they would need to apply for dual citizenship, as I must, but made it sound like we could submit the same documentation just once for the all of us, not having 4 sets of orginals.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of joint application?

Thanks,
Sam

Yes, you read that correctly. You can all submit together with one set of the common documents. When my sister and I did it (at the NYC consulate), we submitted for her children too (age 20 and 24 at the time).
