GUISANI/GUISSANI

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Hi, Im looking for any information of the name of GUISEPPE or JOSEPH GUISANI/GUISSANI, or any variation. He is in the uk census for LONDON of 1871. He married MARY STANTON in 1868 in CLERKENWELL LONDON. I do not have any further history of him before that date. Is there anyone who can help ? Many thanks ...Tiana

Here is the 1871 census you referred to.

Did the marriage record you found give you the name of Giuseppe Guissani's father?

The only help I can give you is that the spelling is probably GIUSSANI, and that the surname is very typical of Lombardia, in the area north of Milano. Unfortunately they are really a lot (approx. 1500 today) and it's impossible to make a guess of the place of origin.
Also the first names Giuseppe and the children's Salvatore, Giacomo and Rosina (Rosa) are all quite common and suggest no hint.
You have to find some more info in London!
Good luck,
Marco, Milano
