Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

My grandaunt back in Italy around 1960s and died in Italy ... I know that she had a daughter in Chicago who died infant and some stillborn also.... When Vincenzo died she remarried at a man also of italian origin( I believe coming from Bari) maybe a widow also, I don't know the surname. This second husband working in a chocolate factory... If I remember well...

I cannot find the Vincenzo naturalization in Chicago, IL

Have you seen this record for James Giannitti (maybe this is your Jimmie Jannitti in 1930 Census)?

James Giannitti in the U.S. Naturalization Record Indexes, 1791-1992
Name: James Giannitti
Birth Date: 25 Mar 1881
Birth Place: Italy
Age at event: 58
Court District: Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa
Date of Action: 9 Jun 1939

AND... this record for a Raffaela Giannitti in Chicago??
#CN-3907407
Name: Raffaela Gannitti
Birth Date: 28 Sep 1884
Birth Place: Italy
Age at event: 51

EDIT TO ADD:

Here is the WWII Draft Registration Card for the James Gannitti (Gianitti) on the above naturalization card. Same Address at W. 11th St., Chicago. Same birthdate as well, with birthplace listed as Apricena...

I found now the Vincenzo WWI draft registration card:

Vincenzo Jannette

United States World War I Draft Registration Cards

Name: Vincenzo Jannette
Event Type: Draft Registration
Event Date: 1917-1918
Event Place: Chicago City no 43, Illinois, United States
Gender: Male
Nationality: Italy
Birth Date: 25 Mar 1887 ( bad transcription: right 1881!)
Birthplace: , ,

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1968530

and next of kin is Mrs Raphael Jannetti residing in 1021 Shotto... (?) st Chicago IL,
same address provided by Raffaela on 1920 ship's manifest ..
but she never before in USA ... so on the ship's manifest... it is a discrepancy..
maybe I missed something... ?
thanks,
suanj

Hugs to you, suanj! :D

Maybe Vincenzo gave Raffaela at that address in 1918 because he was claiming her as a dependent on second side of card. ????
