Italian Citizens React to Greek Election Results

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Italian Citizens React to Greek Election Results

Postby jennabet » 25 Jan 2015, 19:14

Tsipras, the Greek anti establishment party has won the Greek election today. Italian citizens in Italy have been asked to respond to the following on-line Question Of The Day presented by RAI SKY TG24 Primo Piano:

"Tsipras will not respect agreements on austerity with the EU. Is this good?"

The Italian people have responded as follows to the online question: No - 21%, YES - 79%

This clearly indicates the Italian people are with Greece. Is Italy going to exit the European Union?

Interesting, but not expected. Many think austerity is not the answer to the crisis.

How is Italy responding to the reduction of Euro to dollar?

My Italian friends have been going to Boston to visit relatives every year since 2005. They bought US dollars in Italy on a regular basis throughout the year to use on their trips but they are no longer purchasing dollars and have no trips planned. In addition, our travel club had a trip planned to US East Coast in May but that has also been cancelled due to not enough participation. For people living in Italy with income in US dollars, the Euro devaluation is like manna from heaven. We must wait and see what happens with Greece. Syriza is being adamant about not respecting EU agreements. It may get interesting but Italians think Greece is way better off already with the new government.
