How to request documentation (Marriage Certificate)?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

How to request documentation (Marriage Certificate)?

Postby mikew » 15 Apr 2015, 16:26

We need to (first find, then) request the Marriage Certificate of our ggg-grandfather (the gf of my gf) to italy. I'm planning on sending letters to one of the remaining churches, the town hall and the province central civic office.

We believe my ggg married in Leonforte, Enna, around the year 1881, and the only remaining church from that era is "Chiesa Cattolica San Giovanni Battista".

How do we do it? Do you know any model letter to follow? How would they answer, do we need to send them stamps or some special envelope for they to make the actual answer? Thanks!
