Sicilian Records

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Sicilian Records

Post by donnalynn829 »

Hope you can help me with this (this group has been AWESOME with translations).
I've attached what I think is a birth certificate for my grandfather's sister. Besides needing it translated, I need to know where in Italy it came from because my grandfather and his parents were born there as well.

I thought the family was from Agira, but I can't find records specifically from Agira. FamilySearch.org has lots of databases - it's where I found the records for my relatives from Canna, Cosenza, Calabria - but I'm not sure where to look for this branch of the family.

Thanks in advance!

Donna

You are correct, this is a birth certificate.
On Aug 9 1869, the Civil State Officer of Agira certifies that
Antonina Vasta was born in Agira on May 16 1906
as it results from the birth act #328 Part 1.

If you wish to get the original birth act you may write to
Ufficio di stato civile
Via Vittorio Emanuele 372
94011 Agira EN
Italy

You need to request a "Copia integrale dell'atto di nascita", write in Italian and include a Photo ID.
Sample letters can be found here: http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html

On FamilySearch you may find some Parish records:

Thank you, Livio. If I was looking for other records for Agira on Family Search, where is the Provincia di Enna?
