immigration from Italy to France?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

immigration from Italy to France?

Postby chasandre » 26 Jan 2006, 14:16

Hi all,

i am trying to track my probable ancestor who immigrated from Italy to France some time around 1840- 1855. I know he was in France by 1855, becasue that''s when he married my gggGrandmother. The tricky part is that m ggGrandmother was born out of wedlock in 1846, and legitimized at the time of the wedding. However, I'm not sure if the child was simpplylegitimized because of the marriage, or if he really was the father of the child. If would help to figure out when this guy immigrated from Italy. Do any records like this exist? The distance is not too far (probably only 200 Km as the crow flies) so he might even have walked or rode a horse, or however folks got around back then.
