Looking for Nicola Borrelli manifest

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Looking for Nicola Borrelli manifest

Postby sahartung » 26 Jul 2006, 00:26

My great grandfather Nicola Borrelli born in 1870 traveded to America before his family arrived in 1898. He also made a second trip back to Italy we believe between 1904 and 1910. He probably would have sailed from Naples. He lived in Venafro and traveled also to Del Sannio (Isernia) and my have lived there for awhile. I have not been able to find any ship mainfest that may have shown these two trips. Any help would be much appreciated.

Missing him,
Sharon

Thanks, Maria. Could be him although not much info to go on but all the info is right except for the spelling. I didn't notice any other part of the manifest that might have more detail such as who or where he was going. He would have been returning to Rhode Island. Any other suggestions?

My great grandfather Nicola Borrelli was married to Maria Bambina DeGaglia.
We do have her ship manifest when she came over with her daughter Assunta.
We are trying to pin down his hometown and more info on his parents. He was in the priesthood before leaving it to marry Bambina. The research site you gave me in Italy if not too expensive might be the way to go. I do have possible towns to research, Venafro & Del Sannio are two he would have been in.

Thanks for your help.

Can you tell us where he settled in the US? Did they marry in Italy?
Names & birth years of their children? Maria's age?
What US records do you have for him and his family?

Sharon,
May help in finding missing manifest for Nicola...
Last son, Alvieo born in 1907 in RI?
By 1910 were Nicola & Maria B. divorced?
If so, he may not have listed Maria as who he was joining on his trip back to the US.
Thanks! vj

Hi Del Sannio is a part of some name towns in Molise region (Isernia is a province of Molise region); but I believe that is no DEL Sannio, but NEL Sannio the part of nametown; De Gaglia surname was and are in CANTALUPO NEL SANNIO town...

your Maria Bambina (Bambina first name is tipical of Isernia area)
seem as last residence Venafro right; http://ellisisland.org/search/shipmanif ... 3065030167

I believe that Assunta born in Venafro; however for to find something about nicola you must to know almost some sure data (or birthdate or almost name father, or name mother) .....

You have some other info about Nicola? regards, suanj

Hi valarie, I found this message txt:

Looking for realtives in the USA and Italy. Key names are Procaccini, Borrelli, De Gaglia and Melino. My grandfather Saverio Procaccini came from Panni, Foggia in about 1898. He settled in Prov, RI and married Maria Bambina De Gaglia (Previously married to Nicola Borrelli). His brother Alfonso and sister Pasqualina also came to the US at different times. I believe 3 sisters remained in Italy Concetta, Soscasti (?) and Raphaela. Alfonso settled in Brooklyn and Pasqualina in RI. Pasqualina married Pasquale Melino. Interested in hearing from relatives. I belive some are in Canada and others in NY.
so now we know more! kisses, suanj

Yes, thank you all. I do have what I believe to be Maria Bambina's marriage certificate to Nicola Dec. 1895. It's in Italian which I still need to get it translated. Bambina was born yes in Nel Sannio sorry for the wrong spelling. Her father was Pietro De Gaglia and her mother was Angela Scclastica. She was born we believe March 30, 1875 however her death certificate lists 1881. She did remarry Saverio Procaccini. Her and Nicola had two children Assunta and Teresa. Assunta married John Santoro and Teresa married Louis Pisione. We believe Bambina and Saverio had Nicolas (Alvieo) although his birth certificate lists Nicola as the father. It was while Nicola was away that she had an affair with Saverio her border at the time. So his trip to Italy the second time would have been before 1910. Nicolas (Alvieo) was born Feb. 2, 1907. All we know about Nicola is that Assunta was born in Venafro. I have her birth certificate also which needs translation. She was three when leaving Italy with her mother Bambina. Her full name is Assunta Francesca Filippa Borrelli born April 2 or 3, 1895. The two birth certificates differ. The one in Italian says 3 which I believe to be the original as the other was a later document issued we believe for ship passage. Nicola was born Dec. 6, 1870 and died in Rhode Island Aug. 24, 1926. Stories are that he was in the priesthood in Italy before meeting Bambina who lived in a convant like building in Nel Sannio. Probably how he met her if he was visiting such places. We also have a story about him having a sister who was crippled. His mother was very angry that he left the priesthood as you can imagine at the time. This is all we know about him. Any info about him would be wonderful. We don't believe his parents or his sister ever left Italy. Thank you all. Sharon

jcsm,

The census info you have would be much appreciated. I don't believe Isidoro is a relative but Bambina, Alvieo, etc. are.

Thanks,
Sharon

if you have Maria Bambina marriage certificate, in this certificate also, and SURE, are the nicola relative's names and the birthplace; abt Nel Sannio is a last part of a nametown, before are the first part for sure, and could be Cantalupo?(complete: Cantalupo nel Sannio right); so if you read the marriage certificate, or you post here the picture, we can help you better.. regards, suanj
