Cant find Carlo or Jennie Immediato boat to America??

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Cant find Carlo or Jennie Immediato boat to America??

Postby SantaCarlucci » 11 Mar 2007, 07:06

:? Ciao everyone, I'm confused about how to persue finding relatives when they supposedly came to New Rochelle, NY from Montecorvino Rovella Salerno in 1891 and 1903. heres what I found on Ancestry.com about my family. I am Carl Immediato, the great grandson of Carlo Immediato, a laborer that married my great grandmother Jennie, i believe her real name to be Giavanna, in about 1890 and had a daughter Angelina in 1892. My great aunt told me that Carlo [her grandfather ] was from Montecorvino Rovella near Salerno. i find him and Jennie and 9 of their kids in the 1910 census saying he was born abt 1857 and immigrated in 1891, Jennie born abt 1870 and her first daughter Angelina born abt 1892 immigrated to NY in 1893. I find him buried in New Rochelle in 1939, along with info that all of his 12 kids are now deceased and most of his grandchildren as well.
What I cant find is either of the two boats that Carlo nor Jennie and Angleina nor Patzy came over on, immigration records, nor any way to find history of their wedding or any other records in Italy. Ellis island was not open until 1892 so Carlo probrablly came to Carlton Island, but I cant find him in their records either. How do we find any of these missing records? I only know of Carlo's hometown of Montecorvino from one of Carlo's granddaughter, so i dont have proof they are from there, although a lot of Immediatos show they are from that part of Italy. theres even a male cousin Patzy DOB abt 1885 and immigrated in 1905 that was living with them that I cant find either.
Has anyone found any better sources of immigration records? Any help is appreciated... Santa

Thank you both for the efforts. Suanj, do you think I could find the manifest for the Caledonia? I looked on http://immigrantships.net/nycarrivals1_6.html but cant find it arriving in NY city in 1891. Could you find Jennie or Giavanna and Angelina in 1893? Ellis Island doesnt show me any Immediato, or any sound alikes with Giavanna, Carl, Carlo, or Angelina coming thru in 1891 or 1893. And I know about a Pasquale Immediato [ no relative] that married Anna [ Carlo's 2nd daughter] based on the other forums, if I am trying to get citizenship, do I have to show a marriage license for each of my generations, including Carlo and Jennie in the MCorvino Ravello / Salerno area of Italy in 1890? I found a marriage license dept in Mntcorvino Ravello city web site, would they have records and will they research? or were all records kept by the churches? And wldspirit, what type of document in the westchester archives would you think I could find that would have Carlo or Jennie or Angelina original city of emmigration? looks like I have to pay for each one before I can see it...

ciao Suanj, just wanted to let you know that I did find some relatives of my great grandfather Carlo and also because you gave me the interest to go back to Italy and find my great grandfathers birthplace, I am visiting Italy and Montecorvino Rovello next month! I am planning to see if I can find any records of Carlo and Jennie's wedding in 1890 and even if a birth record can be found. I also verified that Immediata is the name on the original boat registry and there are lots of Immediata's as well as Immediato's still living in MR. an italian friend says they only have birth records in the 'system' since about 1870 which means I wont find Carlo's birth records unless there is a church that has it. I would love to find great aunts and uncles but have no way of knowing if Carlo had sisters and brothers. how would you go about finding the birth and wedding records?
