Emigration to England

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Emigration to England

Post by clarajo2001 »

My gg grandparents left Italy in approx 1894 & ended up living in Halifax, West Yorkshire. I have no idea where they came from although my mum seems to think it was Bari.
Is there anyway I can find out when they left/where they docked.
Are there any websites where I can find details on their births & marriages?

Have a look at the 1901 census and see if it gives the town or area they were from. Also give their names on here - it is surprising what info people on this site could give you. Also other people could be researching the same family and could give you help.

The only way of finding passengers into Britain is looking at the records at Kew. They are not on-line.

Nothing is impossible!
