Emigration ports

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Emigration ports

Postby joshuaross » 24 Nov 2007, 14:12

Where could I find passenger lists for emigrates from Italy? I am looking for family that left in 1898 and went to Brazil. My great-grandfather went there with his parents and siblings. I do have his Ellis Island record from 1906 that states he emigrated from Naples. So, logic says he went to Brazil, back to Italy, the to the US. I know his two brothers lived in Brazil in 1947 because I have a letter from one of them. Did Italy keep records of people leaving/coming? Thanks.
